Perspective

When I looked in the mirror at this outfit it felt like a 1970s costume.  Looking at photos, I think it looks pretty cool.  I curled my hair with a flat iron, and the front turned out ok.  Luckily I only take photos of the front!

Dress, Miss Tina, Walmart; leggings, Faded Glory, Walmart; vest, vintage without tags, swapped; shoes, Sofft, ???; necklace, thrifted; earrings, Augusta Market.

This fun vest is a vintage piece from my friend Chenille's aunt.  Chenille brought it along with some other vintage pieces to a swap, and I snatched them right up.  The necklace came from the same estate sale as my brooch from Here for the Weird.  It's another big, weird, funky piece.

You couldn't see my earrings in any of the photos, but they were lovely carved wood.  I ditched the vest for most of the day at work, and just worked the shirt dress and leggings look.

Switched and Spotted

This outfit got away from me.  It started out with a faux leather moto jacket, but it didn't quite feel right.  I switched it to this suit jacket, and suddenly I was all dressed up.

Jacket, Apt. 9, thrifted; dress, London Times, swapped; leggings, Faded Glory, Walmart; shoes, Relativity, Younkers; earrings, handmade and gifted; necklace, thrifted!

This dress is from my last clothing swap.  I love it with leggings.

Also, there's a reason people wear lipstick.

Here for the Weird

I got this lovely brooch at an estate sale last weekend.  It's pretty weird.  It is made of mother of pearl, silky cord, and red stone beads.  I like thrift stores and estate sales because of the weird.  You never know what you're going to find.

Jacket, Anne Taylor Loft, thrifted; shirt, BRAND, swapped; belt, thrifted; skirt, Xhilaration, swapped; tights, Assets, Target; boots, Frye, Goody Two Shoes; brooch, thrifted; earrings, handmade by me!

My friend Natalie said the belt makes me look like Minnie Mouse- compliment, right?

Being Koi

This outfit is more than the sum of its parts, and the parts are pretty good.  Put together, it reminds me of a koi pond with three little fish swimming serenely through.  We all need a reminder that we're little fish in the big pond of this world, amirite?

Blouse, Cinnamon Stick, swapped, skirt, George, Walmart; tights, Target; shoes, Sigerson Morrison for Target, Target; earrings and necklace, ebay.

The shirt is a vintage find that Chenille brought to my last clothing swap.  Thanks, Chenille!  The shoes would not have been my first choice to go with this outfit, but I had to throw out TWO PAIRS of blue flats this morning because one was covered in mold (ick!) and one had a completely split heel.  Luckily, the third pair was the charm- and charming.

Heart and Sole

This sweater may be my sole mate.  I love the shoe print.  I love the luxurious silk yarn.  I love that I found it at a thrift shop.  This sweater probably won't last a tremendous number of wears in my closet because it is delicate and I am not, but I'll enjoy it while I can.

Jacket, Self Indulgence, swapped; sweater, City Silk, thrifted; skirt, Azules, Amazon; shoes, Xhiliration, Target; necklace, Walmart; earrings, ebay.

The jacket is one that my friend Chenille brought to a clothing swap.  I really like the fit.  I even like the brand name, Self Indulgence.

This is one of the best outfits I've put together in a long time.  It's enough to make me kick up my heels.

Details matter, and I finished this outfit with a gold tassel necklace that I got from Walmart, earrings that spell "happy," and rosette shoes.

On the topic of shoes, my honey got hiking boots for me for Valentine's Day.  Ursa likes them.

Lazy Legs

I have worn pants or leggings every work day since last Monday.  The horror!  It started because I was bitten by an ant and my ankle swelled up like a balloon.  (Surprise, I'm allergic to ants!)  It kept going because I was tired and lazy.

Tunic/dress, BRAND, swapped; leggings, OP, Walmart; woven belt, thrifted; shoes, Dr. Scholl's Joliet Ballet Flat*; Amazon; earrings, Target; glasses, Zenni Optical.

The belt came from a weekend visit to the Catholic Social Services thrift shop.  It was a dollar.  It is colorful woven pattern.  Also, these prescription glasses were $12.95!  Get over to Zenni Optical and get yourself some!

This long tunic/very short dress came from my most recent clothing swap.  If you haven't had a swap yet, why haven't you?  You share the clothing you don't wear with friends who will enjoy it.  You take home fun styles you might not have tried before.  Everyone gets something they like, and it doesn't cost you any money.

Styled Pretty

The past couple days (part 1 and part 2) I've reviewed my first Birchbox subscription, which was curated by the wedding blog Style Me Pretty.  What does the recent divorcée wear while experimenting with wedding makeup?  This.

Jacket, Ann Taylor Loft, thrifted; dress, Xhiliration, swapped; sandals, Mossimo, Target; earrings, Walmart(?); necklace, handmade by me; embellished hair tie (worn as bracelet), Deepa Gurnani, Birchbox.

Things I like about this outfit:

  • Cost: The total cost for the entire outfit was around $10.  The jacket was $1 at an estate sale, the dress was swapped, the sandals were clearance... You see what I mean.
  • Lace: I love lace.  It is just so pretty and feminine.
  • Multi-tasking: I love how the Deepa Gurnani embellished hair tie looks as a bracelet.

Sugar Skulls

I've only worn this skull-print dress once before.  I chose it for my birthday when I turned 30 last year.  Today it took its proper place in my pre-Halloween wardrobe.

Dress, Target; tights, Target; shoes, swapped, earrings, Claire's; tights, Target.

This is my first attempt at sort of studio lighting.  I picked up a set of cheap umbrella lights on an Amazon Lightning Deal.  The lights certainly help in this normally dark room.

Identity Swap

This outfit doesn't look like me to me.  It looks like my friend Kristin.  Maybe it's the fact that the shirt used to be hers.  Maybe it's the fact that the brooch is an alligator and she's a big fan of gators.  Maybe it's the fact that I don't wear a lot of pants.  Whatever the reason, I was channeling my inner Kristin.

Sweater, thrifted; shirt, swapped; pants, Walmart; earrings, Cozumel; brooch, ebay; wedges, 6pm.com; flats, Rack Room Shoes.

You know me; any time I wear heels I have shoes of shame on standby.  These gladiator wedges were comfortable enough I didn't need the flats.
