Fave Five: Songs to Wake Up To

Since we are entering the darker time of the year, it has become more difficult to drag my carcass out of bed in the morning.  It is just harder to go to the gym when it is pitch black outside and won't be light for quite some time.
I use my cell phone as my alarm, so I can choose any song I'd like to wake up to.  I find the right music can help give the final necessary push, and these are my five recommendations:
WorkOut - the Rumixes
  1. Game of Thrones Main Theme
Good because: Winter is coming.  And because it isn't too jarring when you wake up.
Drawback: It is so non-jarring that it can be easy to hit snooze or just sleep through it.
    Buy it here.

  2. Workout by RuPaul
Good because: I like to wake up to songs that might imprint messages on me for the day.  What should I do this morning?  How about "Work work work work work out?"  Also, RuPaul is a philosopher for our time.
Drawback: None, unless there's such a thing as too much RuPaul, but there's not.  So, none.
    Buy it here.

  3. Lookin' Good, Feelin' Gorgeous by RuPaul
Good because: See above.  Looking good, feeling gorgeous is a good way to start the day.
    Drawback: See above.
    Buy it here.

  4. Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
Good because: I like lyrics relevant to what I'm doing... "I'm waking up..." is good for when I'm, um, waking up.  It starts off quieter and builds, which is less abrupt than some songs on the list.  Also, the video has cage fighting Muppets and Lou Diamond Phillips.
Drawback: Cage fighting Muppets make me sad.
    Buy it here.

  5. Cold Hard Bitch by Jet
Good because: It sets the tone for the day and makes me feel like there's nothing I can't deal with.
Drawback: Lots of cursing for the pre-dawn hours.
    Buy it here.
Once my feet hit the ground I can stagger to the espresso machine and then to the gym.  What gets you going in the morning?

Awesome as F**k

The first CD I every purchased was Green Day's Dookie.  I was approximately 11 years old, and I have loved the band ever since.  I think I have every album they've released, and I have seen them in concert three times.  I <3 Green Day.  Their most recent CD/concert dvd is Awesome As F**k (Amazon link) , and it is.  The t-shirt came from one of the times I saw them in concert for their 21st Century Breakdown (Amazon link) tour.  I love the political/social justice messages that play out in some of their recent work, and I love the juvenile, masturbatory anthems in some of their earlier albums.
Rock on!
Not to be confused with "I love you."
I love you Stephen.  And Wonton.  And Gadget.
And Mom.  And Kate.  And others.  You know
who you are.
Blazer, thrifted; tee, purchased at Green Day concert; slacks, Star City, Younkers; flats, Madden Girl, Rack Room Shoes; earrings, Claire's.
A repair guy caught me rocking out at my
desk.
It was embarrassing, but I stand by
my rocking out.

I am the only one in my part of the office today, so I declared it casual Friday.  There is no one else here, so I'm King Queen for a Day.  If you have had a long week like I have, click on some of the links above and rock your ass off.  Especially King for a Day, but especially all of them.

I just found out that today is Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong's 40th birthday.  Funny.  I didn't know that when I put on this shirt or started writing this post.  40 years old and still Awesome as F**k.  I think I will celebrate with some Green Day: Rock Band (Amazon link) tonight.

My affirmation of the day from Louise Hay's The Present Moment: 365 Daily Affirmations is: I am at home in my body.

This body is the only one I've got, so I will treat it right with yoga, walking and sleep.
