The Wild, Now Tamed

I remember the first time I wore this dress.  It was probably close to five years ago.  I was hosting a volunteer recognition, and I was horribly uncomfortable.  I spent most of my time thinking about the dress and its many shocking colors.  Ha.  How things have changed.

Cardigan, Younkers; dress, thrifted; shoes, thrifted; earrings, purchased at a Christmas bazaar.

Now this dress feels classic, not garish.  I would wear it nearly anywhere but a funeral without a second thought.  I think the flowers are orchids, which makes it all the better.  Orchids are nearly a sickness for me.  I have over a dozen of various sizes and species.

Dressed Down

This dress isn't formal, but it wasn't quite casual enough for the laid back summertime vibe I was feeling today.  I added bamboo and larimar jewelry, swallow belt, and leather thong sandals, and now the dress feels just just as relaxed as I'd like to be.

Dress, Marshall's; belt, gifted (thanks, Mom!); sandals, Target; necklace and earrings, purchased in the Dominican Republic.

One of my friends told me that men find polka dots attractive.  I don't know whether she is right or not, but I feel lovely.  That's what matters.

Step into the Light

I'm drawn to dark and bold colors, so I'm always surprised by how nice light colors look.  This outfit is a prime example.  I felt girly all day.

Dress, thrifted, sweater, thrifted; belt, thrifted; shoes, Rack Room Shoes; earrings, Target; bracelet, thrifted.

I added floral/butterfly earrings and a honey bee bracelet.  It may look like my feet have a sunburn, but it is actually a reaction to spray paint.  The project I painted is coming up soon!

MWF

Well, at least I managed to post three days this week.  Today's outfit combines my old favorite wrap dress with a polka dotted collared shirt.  This type of pattern mixing is so very easy.  I added blue polka dot shoes because they're pretty much my only blue shoes to tie the other two patterns/colors together.

Dress, Target; shirt, thrifted; shoes, Payless Shoes; earrings, handmade and gifted (thanks, Kate!), necklace, handmade by me.

Happy Friday!

Girls Who Wear Glasses

I don't often wear my glasses.  There are a number of reasons.  I have better peripheral vision with contacts. Contacts are more comfortable when I work out.  On the up side, I look smart, right?

Shirt, gifted; camisole, Sam's Club; skirt, thrifted; sandals, Target; earrings, etsy; necklace, TJ Maxx.

The shirt is a hand me down from my mom.  There is a subtle floral pattern on the shirt that coordinates with the pattern on the skirt.
 Hi Gadget.

Hello, Again

I put "blog" on my to do list on June 8.  I'm getting around to it today.  I've been working, volunteering, reading, writing, running, crafting, home-improving and just being immersed (submerged?) in life.  I've been taking photos, but I haven't had much of a chance to post.

Dress, thrifted; belt, Claire's; boots, Target; earrings and bracelet, handmade by me.

I chose this dress to say "I'm still here" because it is out of the ordinary.  I added the fringed boots even though they don't go with the dress because nothing really goes with this dress.

This is still one of my favorite dresses.  I like that it mixes patterns all by itself.  I like that it is kind of strange and unflattering.  I got it on a shopping trip with the lovely Gracey of Fashion for Giants.

Clown-ish

I like this vintage dress, but there is something vaguely clown-ish about it.  Maybe the red dots remind me of red noses.  Maybe it's the collar.  In any case this is probably the right dress for my mental state today.  Life has been a bit of a circus.

Dress, thrifted, belt, thrifted; shoes, Payless Shoes; earrings and bracelet, handmade by me; necklace, TJ Maxx.

My Classic

This skirt is one of the first animal-print items I ever bought.  It seemed very daring.  I wasn't, particularly,  but it was in comparison to most of my wardrobe at the time.  I mostly wore dark, solid colors, and only slacks and jeans, not skirts and dresses.  I've mostly gotten over that.

Shirt, thrifted; skirt, Younkers; sandals, Younkers; earrings, etsy; necklace, purchased in India.

The fact that I still like this skirt so much after a number of years means it was a good purchase.  It pushed me out of my comfort zone and towards a happier concept of style.  I feel very chic with the classic black top and snake sandals.

Friendly Fringe

This dress on its own reminds me of something a flight attendant would wear.  In an attempt to tone down the "fly the friendly skies" vibe, I added this fringed scarf that I like but haven't worn often.

Dress, Younkers; scarf, Claire's; shoes, Payless Shoes; earrings, thrifted.

The result is a little more cowgirl than I had intended.  I'll try again tomorrow.
