SCOTUS

Today the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of marriage equality.  That's great enough.  Something else momentous happened today.

I can die happy.  RuPaul just retweeted me.
Want to watch the video?  It's here.

Congratulations to the United States.  It's a great day to be an American.  I am feeling so patriotic right now.

Photographic Proof

I usually think of this blog as a way to document what works in my style as well as what doesn't.  Today, however, the purpose is to show that yes, I really did touch Bianca del Rio.

The SC Pride President's Ball was so much fun.  Thanks to everyone who made it possible!

And Then I Touched Bianca del Rio

I'm not going to bury the lead on this one.  I touched Bianca del Rio on Friday night.  There's photographic proof somewhere, and I'll post it as soon as I get it.  If you're not familiar with Bianca del Rio, you don't really know me at all, do you? she's the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6.  Do yourself a favor and watch this show.  It's the best thing on TV.  Seriously.  Then go to Bianca's site and buy something.  Seriously.

I attended the South Carolina Pride President's Ball featuring Bianca del Rio with two of my best friends. At the end of the night Kristin, Holly, and I had our pic taken with.Bianca. Her comment: "What do we have here, the cast of Downton Abbey?" Need that pic.
Looking good, feeling gorgeous.

I'll now subject you to even more outfit pics than usual because I look fantastic.  One day I'll be old and shriveled, so let me be young(ish) and hot(ish) now.  Thanks to my friend Natalie for suggesting that I wear this necklace as a headband.

Now serving legendary goddess realness.  The dress code was your best black and white.  I decided black would be easy, so I went with white.

Dress, Ross; earrings, Walmart; headband (really a necklace), ebay; shoes, Target.
My friend told me how photogenic I am.
I'll give you photogenic.
Unfortunately I got something on the dress over the course of the night.  Say a prayer to Saint Oxiclean.

Can I tell you how much I love Bianca del Rio.  That clown is my spirit animal.  She has a combination of stone-cold, caustic bitch and self-deprecating, vulnerable bitch that speaks to me.
Wow, wow, wow.  Veronica la Blank is an amazing
performer.  Her lip sync to Beyonce's "If I Were
a Boy" brought down the house.
Nicole Roberts is so very talented- an amazing performer (as seen
at Augusta Pride) she made the sequined, zebra-print dress she's wearing.  I need that dress.

This banner belongs to me now.  Seriously.  I own it.
This guy is wearing my favorite color.
Here we are with Miss Patti O'Furniture.  I wish I had photographed all her
great looks.
End of the night.  It's 2:00 am and
I'm still rocking.
Check back Click here for my photographic proof of the touching.  First time I've said that (on this blog).  I'll also be posting a video of part of Bianca's show on YouTube.

Proud

Latrice Motherfucking Royale was at the local Pride festival this year.  Latrice Motherfucking Royale.  Obviously I went.  Obviously I had to find the right thing to wear.  This is what I came up with.

Tank, thrifted; skirt, thrifted; earrings, handmade by me; shoes, Amazon.

This is my interpretation of stars and stripes.  Pride makes me patriotic.

These shoes are fantastic.  They are comfortable and colorful.  You should buy a pair.  Yes, if you purchase them through this link I'll get a commission, but don't you think I deserve it after recommending these shoes?
This might look like shameless shilling, but I consider it a public service announcement.

Enough of me.  Here's some more Pride.

New Job Drag

“We're born naked, and the rest is drag.”
~RuPaul

Shirt, thrifted; skirt, gifted (thank you, Chenille!); belt, thrifted; sandals, Walmart; earrings, Claire's; necklace, inherited (thank you, Grandmere!).

I got the job I posted about last week, and so now I'll be playing with some new-job drag.  We each have our own drag, and that drag changes from day to day, year to year, environment to environment.  Our drag is the way we choose to present ourselves to the world.  It is the image we cultivate and project.  It is how we want others to perceive us.

As you look around at the people in your life, pay special attention to their drag.  Some men have tough-guy Clint Eastwood drag.  Some women have sexpot drag, mom drag, or even "I don't care" drag.  Every choice you make and don't make about how you present yourself makes up your drag.

This bib necklace is hand-me-down costume jewelry from my grandmother.  When she passed away I received this and a string of glass pearls, and I treasure both.  It's fun to incorporate her memory and her aesthetics into my look.  I love that she had the bold style to choose such a statement necklace.  The skirt was a generous Christmas present from Chenille.  I blogged about wanting it, and she remembered.  She's a wonderful friend.

I guess that's another factor that makes up my drag.  I'm influenced by all the people who touch my life.

What's In the Bag

I could buy my clothing and accessories at the department store, but it's a lot more exciting to buy second hand.  There is the thrill of the hunt, and sometimes you get an unexpected surprise.

I got this bag at Goodwill in December, but I hadn't carried it until today.  I'd been wanting a bright yellow purse, and at $2 I couldn't say no.  It seemed virtually new, so I didn't check the pockets like I usually would have.  Today I needed to carry a bigger purse, so I could fit a legal pad to my morning workshop.

Inside the pocket I found a large broken rhinestone, an empty container of MAC cosmetics, sleeping pills, and a business card from LAX Nightclub at the Luxor in Las Vegas.  See, second-hand shopping is so much more exciting.  If this bag could talk...

(Also, does anyone else think the contents of this bag are kind of draggy?)

Thrifted bag?  Thursdays are for Thrifters.

New Years Eve is Such a Drag...

if you do it correctly. I'm getting ready for a little shindig where I'll probably be overdressed. Fabulously overdressed if I play my cards right.
