Rescue Me

In October of last year, Stephen and I adopted a four-year-old Boston Terrier from the Boston Terrier Rescue of South Carolina.  Since he has been a member of our family for six months, I decided it was a good time to reflect on our decision to get a rescue dog instead of a puppy.

I started to think that I might want a second dog last summer, when Wonton was diagnosed with a degenerative esophageal disease.  The thought of losing her after 13 years was terrifying.

I decided on a Boston Terrier because I was looking for a dog with a little more energy than Wonton who would be able to walk with me on our neighborhood, and Stephen was willing to get a second dog if it was about the same size as Wonton.  The local Boston Terrier rescue recommended Gadget (then named Bubba).  I went to see Gadget the first time while Stephen was out of town.  I dragged Stephen to meet the dog as soon as he was home.  (When Stephen tells this story he says that I got Gadget when he was out of town.  Not true!)

Gadget's Jolly Ball really makes him exceptionally jolly.

I am so glad we brought him into our home.  I have gone through quite a bit in the past six months, and Gadget has given me a reason to get up a lot of mornings.  I may not have felt like getting out of bed, but he wanted his walk and I didn't want to deprive him.

We have been incredibly lucky with Gadget.  He is 100% house trained, and he picked up obedience training quickly and eagerly.

If you are considering adopting a dog, please consider a rescue animal.  I've never second-guessed our choice.

Everybody, Everywear: Lemon Lime

Today is Everybody, Everywear: Pastels!

 

I don't wear a whole lot of pastels, but I didn't want to miss an EBEW.  I am unexpectedly pleased with how my foray into the lighter side of the color spectrum.  Something about this color combination is very refreshing.

 

Green cardigan, Mossimo, Target; yellow shell, thrifted; microsuede skirt, thrifted; belt, thrifted; sandals, Born, Younkers; necklace, bracelet and earrings, handmade by me.

I found this skirt at a thrift store a couple months ago, but this is the first time I've ever actually worn it.  It is actually part of a suit with a matching jacket, but it's a little too much green microsuede when it's all together.

 

I've had the sweater shell for a few years.  I used to have a matching cardigan, but it never fit well.  I sent it to Goodwill.

Girl on Fire

I devoured the first two Hunger Games books a few years ago, and I had the third book on reserve at the library before it even came out.  That being said, I'm kind of afraid to watch the movie.  I'm afraid of being disappointed.  I'll probably rent it once it's out on DVD, but I'm not rushing to the theater to see it.

 

My outfit today is inspired by Katniss, the girl on fire.  I really like how it turned out.

Saturday Night Sweet

My daily outfits pretty regularly make Stephen shake his head.  While I know he wants me to wear whatever makes me happy, I still try to wear something he will think is pretty every now and again.  We had a date Saturday night, so I decided to pretty it up for him.

 

The color combination seemed appropriate since it was Easter weekend and just a few days before EBEW: Pastels.

 

Dress, Dress Barn, thrifted; cardigan, Younkers; sandals, Born, Younkers; earrings, etsy; swirl pendant, Kay Jewelers; pendant watch, gifted (thanks, Pop!).

We went out to dinner at the Rooster's Beak in downtown Augusta, and it was delicious!  We shared quite a few small plates.  The stand-out stars of the night were the restaurant's house-made chorizo and cinnamel (cinnamon-caramel) ice cream.  If you're ever in the Augusta area, make sure you try the Rooster's Beak.  It was completely worth the drive for us.  They also have a fantastic beer selection!  Stephen had a Great Divide Colette Saison and I had a California Cider Company Ace Pear Cider.

Since the outfit I wore Thursday was not thrifted, I decided to submit this one for Thursdays are for Thrifters.  It made me feel pretty and thrifty.
