EBEW: Boots Follow Up

When Stephen came home last night he told me I didn't wear the right boots for EBEW: Boots.  I guess three pairs in one post wasn't enough.  He suggested I should wear his work boots instead.

Here you go, Stephen: your work boots on my blog.
They keep your toes from being crushed.
And hey look especially nice
with my leopard socks.
Stephen wore these to a fancy-ish work event once, and more people commented on his boots than any of the stylish ensembles in the room.  There is probably a lesson in there somewhere.

* Edit: Stephen says they are Redwing Boots from Thompson's Boots.

EBEW: Past, Present, & Future

Don't forget to comment on this post for a chance to win some of handmade jewelry, and use coupon code THANKSGIVING to get 25% off my Etsy items!  Today I'm serving up a triple dose of boots.

A couple weeks ago I broke the rules and wore leggings as pants.  I know.  I know.  Leggings are not pants.  In response to that post, one of my caring friends emailed to tell me I should invest in some skinny jeans.  Skinny jeans?

I know many of you wear and love skinny jeans, but I have avoided them for most of my life.  Skinny jeans have been a nemesis since the 1980s when, at approximately 5 years old, I decided I was far too fat to wear them.  The sad truth is that it wasn't until I steeped in self-hatred for a decade that I actually became overweight.  Silly brain.

Now I'm a grown-ass woman, and I'm not going to let some pants scare me.  If skinny jeans can solve my pants/boots dilemma, then I am willing to tango with them again.  What better day to take on this challenge than Everybody, Everywear: Boots.  I found this super skinny, super stretchy pair at Target.  I had two $5 gift cards, so I paid just $13.  I am willing to experiment at that price.

They work great with over-the-knee boots.  I love me some over-the-knee boots.

Leopard sweater, Younkers; skinny jeans, Target; over the knee boots, Victoria's Secret.

Once I had conquered skinny jeans with boots for EBEW, I decided I would aim a little higher.  Not only can I rock some boots, I can travel back in time to right the wrongs of my childhood.  I came up with this quick tribute outfit that I would have wanted to wear when I was a kid.

1988 called: they said don't bother sending this outfit back.  Suede jacket, thrifted; tube top, Walmart; skinny jeans, Target; pink space boots, ebay.

I found these wonderful boots on ebay and they had to be mine.  I call them my space boots.  Unfortunately there just aren't enough occasions to wear space boots.

With past and present locked down, only the future was left to conquer.  I immediately knew which boots would be boots of the future.  I call them my dystopian boots.

Suede jacket, thrifted; sequined tank, thrifted; skinny jeans, Target; grey boots, Rack Room Shoes.

Now I've banished my demons around skinny jeans, at least for the day.  What are your style phobias?  Which looks do you want to dare to try?

EBEW: Yay! More Voting!

If you've already voted in the national elections today and you're looking for a way to keep your voting high going, click on over to Everybody, Everywear to vote for the November 13 style challenge.  I will readily admit that when it comes to the EBEW vote, I am firmly in the animal print party.

Tonight I'm watching Chopped reruns and drinking apple cider.  I'll find out who won the presidential election in the morning.  It's just to stressful to watch the play-by-play right now.

EBEW: Too School For Cool

Back To School | Everybody, Everywear
I wasn't sure what to do about this month's challenge.  I'm fairly certain I was uncool in high school.  I was definitely painfully self conscious and desperately wanted to fit in.  Didn't everyone.  Though I didn't know it at the time, the lessons I learned then lead me down the path I'm on now, where I proudly let me freak flag fly.  It taught me that fitting in is often overrated.

I was aiming for a preppy look that I never would have dared in high school (red pants!) combined with accessory relics from my past with a dash of my recent trip to India.  Even in high school I appreciated the value of thrifting.  One of my prom dresses came from Goodwill.

Button down shirt, ALC Stretch, thrifted; camisole, thrifted; red pants, J Crew, thrifted; scarf, purchased in India; shoes, American Eagle, Payless Shoes; earrings, gifted (thanks Mom!); lizard pendant, I don't remember; thumb and middle finger rings, handmade by me in high school jewelry class; ring finger ring, purchased in high school.
The side profile of this ring looks
like a face.

I was in high school eleven years ago today when the world as we knew it changed.  I was in my first period geography class when the World Trade Center was attacked.  It was shocking, frightening, and so senseless.  Looking back, we developed a new language to deal with our national grief.  Words like "ground zero" and the date "September 11" developed weighty meaning.  Today I take a brief break from my self-centered blogging to remember those who lost their lives eleven years ago today and those who love them.

EBEW: I Got Mono (And I Liked It)

Monochromatic | Everybody, Everywear I wasn't completely on board with this month's EBEW challenge.  Monochromatic?  The month right after color blocking?  I stood in my closet this morning and asked myself what my favorite color is.  Leopard print.  Well, that won't work.  So I chose my second favorite color.  This turquoise-y ocean blue.  I love the results.

Dress, Talbots, thrifted; belt, thrifted; shoes, Merona, Target; turquoise earrings and matching bracelet, handmade by me; other bracelets, thrifted.

I found this new-with-tags Talbots dress at Goodwill a few months ago, but this is my first time wearing it.  I love the cutout details at the neck, and it was a cool and comfortable choice for August in Georgia.  It came with a self-belt, but I swapped it out for this slim turquoise leather one.

I spent the day getting vaccinations for tropical diseases because in a few weeks I will be going to India!  The opportunity came up last week and I jumped at it.  Watch for some more covered-up styles on this blog as I experiment with styles will be more modest and wearable in the Indian heat.  Luckily I have the perfect laboratory.  It has been hotter here than where I will be going.

Check out Everybody Everywear for more creative, monochromatic outfits!

Everybody, Everywear: Blogger's Block

Color Blocking: Everbody, Everywear

Sorry for the ginormous photo.  EBEW didn't let me link to a smaller one.
I had blogger's block when I started to put together this outfit.  I knew I wanted to wear these sky-high cobalt sandals, but I wasn't sure where to go from there.

I like the bold red and cobalt blue together, and of course I love these shoes.  They are a recent acquisition from Target (clearance, bien sur).

This may not be the best color blocking I've ever done, but I am so happy to be back to participating in Everybody, Everywear!

Today is also my first attempt at using the remote with my new camera.  It will take practice to look subtle as I'm pressing the remote button, but it was cool to not have to reset the self-timer every time.

Leopard nails: still looking pretty good.

Sweater, Sweater Project, Younkers; dress, George, Walmart; belt, thrifted; shoes, Mossimo, Target; earrings, etsy, So & So; necklace, handmade by me.

Love these long button earrings from
So & So.

The shoes are the main event for this outfit.  I am thrilled to add them to the list for my Summer Shoe Challenge.

I <3 these shoes.

Thanks for visiting!

Everybody, Everywear: Pirates FTW

Natilcal: EBEW

This is the second time I've posted this pirate song on my blog.  Last time it was stuck in my head for days after.  Why am I doing this to myself?

I know that Everybody, Everywear is not a competition, but in this outfit I feel like I'm winning.  What is more nautical than a skirt with ships on it?  This outfit makes me feel like a pirate, and pirates always win in my book.  I would be lying if I said I hadn't considered adding an eye patch.

Sweater, thrifted; tank, Walmart; skirt, Sailor Jerry; sandals, Montego Bay Club, Payless Shoes; necklace and earrings, handmade by me; bracelet, gifted (thanks Mom!).

I've figured out what I will title the fashion book I will probably never write:  How to Dress Like an Eccentric With a Crazy Budget.  It's funny because rich people are eccentric while normal people are crazy, and my style proclivities are skewed to the eccentric crazy.

Blogger Kimberly at Poor Girl Eats Well actually is writing a book, and I anticipate it will be terrific.  The Poor Girl Eats Well book has only 4 days left on Kickstarter.  Kimberly has met her fundraising goal, but if anyone else contributes it will only improve the awesomeness of the book.

Everybody, Everywear: Lemon Lime

Image 4554

Today is Everybody, Everywear: Pastels!

I don't wear a whole lot of pastels, but I didn't want to miss an EBEW.  I am unexpectedly pleased with how my foray into the lighter side of the color spectrum.  Something about this color combination is very refreshing.

Green cardigan, Mossimo, Target; yellow shell, thrifted; microsuede skirt, thrifted; belt, thrifted; sandals, Born, Younkers; necklace, bracelet and earrings, handmade by me.

I found this skirt at a thrift store a couple months ago, but this is the first time I've ever actually worn it.  It is actually part of a suit with a matching jacket, but it's a little too much green microsuede when it's all together.

I've had the sweater shell for a few years.  I used to have a matching cardigan, but it never fit well.  I sent it to Goodwill.

If you're new to this blog, check out my favorites!
