Regal

Purple and leopard feels like a royal combination for me.  Not a 21st century constitutional monarchy kind of royal, mind you, more of a medieval royal with smoke-filled halls and feasts of whole roasted animals.

Dress, vintage, thrifted and shortened; belt, Walmart; flats, Mossimo, Target; earrings, handmade by me; necklace, handmade by me.

This dress is from Goodwill.  I shortened it just a little bit since the last time I wore it, and I like the length even better now.  It has pockets- always a bonus.

Whatever

Here is my style philosophy in a nutshell: wear whatever makes me happy, and accessorize with whatever makes me happy.

I am acutely aware that it is not about me in general, but when it comes to my clothes it isn't about anyone else.  My clothes don't need to "go together" in anyone's estimation but mine.  Sometimes I coordinate, sometimes I contrast, sometimes I just wear a bunch of things that I like all at once.

For today's outfit: Animal print consistently makes me smile.  Turquoise plus red is one of my favorite color combinations right now.  It is reflected in my jewelry, my belt and shoes, and my fingernail and toenail polish.  I could have worn this as a super-short dress, but I decided I'd be more comfortable if I followed Gracey's lead and wore my short dress as a tunic with leggings.

Two Peas Necklace.
Please excuse the cell phone picture quality.
In other news, I have made a few more pieces of jewelry lately, and these pieces are destined for sale on Chenille's So & So etsy shop.

One of my favorite pieces I've made for sale is the two peas necklace.  I am fortunate enough to have amazing friends with whom I connect on so many levels, and this necklace is inspired by them.

I'll shamelessly self promote when my items are listed on etsy, but in the meantime, check out the lovely things Chenille has listed on So & So.

Check back tomorrow night for a special bonus girls' night post with AMAZING shoes!

It's a Shoe In

Ok, so I know the expression is actually "shoo-in," but this is a post about shoes.  Actually, it's a post about a sweater with a shoe print.

I'm a bit of a shoe fiend, in case you didn't know.  My shoe closet (shoetopia) is a embarrassing monument to conspicuous consumption.  When I saw this sweater at Goodwill (another from my excursion with Chenille), I knew it was meant to be mine.  It is a silk and cotton blend, so it has a decadent softness.

Sweater, City Silk, thrifted; skirt, George, Walmart; shoes, 5th Avenue, Rack Room Shoes; belt, thrifted; necklace, thrifted.
Close-up of sweater and necklace.

I took my photos outside at lunch today.  Noon sun is really not the ideal photographic lighting, but wow is it a beautiful day.

Today is Thursday, and Thursdays are for Thrifters!

Orange You Glad It's Thursday?

We only have one more work day this week, and I think that's wonderful.  I also think the colors in this outfit are wonderful.  You may recognize the shirt dress as identical to this one except for color.  I really like the green one, so I went back for orange.  Every now and again Walmart gets it right, style-wise anyway.
I love my hair in this pic, though my hands are kind of awkward.

Shirt dress, Miss Tina, Walmart; printed dress, thrifted; belt, came with shirt dress; shoes, Bare Traps, Younkers; earrings, TJ Maxx; pendant, ebay; bracelet, gifted (thanks Mom!).
Can you see the intaglio flowers carved in the amber?

This outfit is only partially thrifted, but it's a part I'm very fond of.  The dress I'm wearing under the shirt dress is from a garage sale a few years ago.
Memorial Day Weekend 2010 (engagement weekend)
I love my honey. Cheesy, yes, but doesn't that beat the alternative?

This thrifted dress holds a special place in my memory because I wore it the weekend that Stephen proposed to me.  That was almost two years ago.  Now we have been married for a year and eight months.  Life changes so quickly.

It's Thursday, and Thursdays are for Thrifters!

Lookin' Good, Feeling Bloggy

I am now a blogger.  It's official.  I have giggled every time I looked at this outfit on the hanger this week.  Five months and 200+ posts in, and I'm finally mixing stripes and dots.  I'm so edgy.  I got both the cardigan and the skirt at Goodwill with my mom last weekend.  She has a really nice Goodwill right by her new house.  It's a sign!

Blogging has encouraged me to try new things, and, while I might have worn this outfit before I started blogging, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I am today.  The stripes!  The anchor-embellished buttons!  The dots!  The flowers!

Cardigan, thrifted; tank, thrifted; skirt, Southern Lady, thrifted; shoes, Dexter, Payless Shoes; earrings, etsy; necklace, handmade and gifted (thanks Chenille!).

I love that the brand on this skirt is Southern Lady.  Not surprisingly I had never seen this brand in the North, but I see it all the time at Goodwill here.

Today is Thursday and Thursdays are for Thrifters, and I'm thrifting all week!  Click to see all the thrifted gems I found last weekend.

In other news, the Everybody, Everywear theme for May is Nautical.  I'm excited to try out some sea-worthy looks!

Bruised but Not Broken

It wasn't until I saw these photos that I realized I'm dressed as a giant bruise.  I am purple, black and blue from head to toe.  It's actually rather fitting with the week I've had.  Oh well, on to the clothes.

Dress, vintage, thrifted; camisole, Rue 21; belt, vintage, thrifted; shoes, American Eagle, Payless Shoes; earrings, handmade and gifted (thanks Mary Ann!); necklace, handmade by me; bracelets, thrifted.

Only pic I got that shows the necklace and earrings.
These bangles are made of glass.
I adore this dress.  It is very light and flowy, and I imagine it will be perfect all Georgia summer long.  I may take some inspiration from Gracy at Fashion for Giants and shorten it just a tad, but even if I don't I think it's wonderful.  Also, it has pockets.  Not nearly enough new dresses (or women's clothes in general) have pockets.

My camera battery died after these four photos, but next time I wear this dress I will definitely get more detailed pics of its charming features.

Oh, in spite of my slightly dour mood this morning, I do have some lovely news to share in the next few days.  Happy Thursday, and remember Thursdays are for Thrifters!

Tangerine TV

I'm going to credit Gracie at Fashion for Giants for inspiring me to experiment with the tangerine color family this year.  I found this shirt at Goodwill, and I decided it was worth the $1.75 investment.  What do you think?

Shirt, Goodwill; tank, Rue 21; slacks, Younkers; shoes, Born, Younkers; dragonfly pendant, purchased in Cozumel; cicada pendant, ebay; bracelets, purchased in Cozumel; earrings, Christmas craft bazaar.

I am supposed to be on TV with my boss tonight, and I am not looking forward to it.  I was going crazy trying to decide what to wear until I remembered one little secret... It doesn't matter.  No one cares.  Yay!

A new cicada.  No, it's not a cockroach... or a
palmetto bug.  I think I'll paint the eyes red
to make it clear.
Yes, my feet are kind of busted.  You should have seen them
before I painted them up last week.

These earrings don't get enough wear.  Hopefully
they will get more now that I am embracing the
tangerine.

Saturday Night Sweet

My daily outfits pretty regularly make Stephen shake his head.  While I know he wants me to wear whatever makes me happy, I still try to wear something he will think is pretty every now and again.  We had a date Saturday night, so I decided to pretty it up for him.

The color combination seemed appropriate since it was Easter weekend and just a few days before EBEW: Pastels.

Dress, Dress Barn, thrifted; cardigan, Younkers; sandals, Born, Younkers; earrings, etsy; swirl pendant, Kay Jewelers; pendant watch, gifted (thanks, Pop!).

We went out to dinner at the Rooster's Beak in downtown Augusta, and it was delicious!  We shared quite a few small plates.  The stand-out stars of the night were the restaurant's house-made chorizo and cinnamel (cinnamon-caramel) ice cream.  If you're ever in the Augusta area, make sure you try the Rooster's Beak.  It was completely worth the drive for us.  They also have a fantastic beer selection!  Stephen had a Great Divide Colette Saison and I had a California Cider Company Ace Pear Cider.

Since the outfit I wore Thursday was not thrifted, I decided to submit this one for Thursdays are for Thrifters.  It made me feel pretty and thrifty.

Marvelous (Mahvelous)

To quote Billy Crystal as his character Fernando, "It doesn't matter how you feel, it's how you look."  And today I look marvelous.  I couldn't find the video on YouTube to embed, but the link above is worth a click.  The video and song are really funny.

Yesterday I felt like I had it all going on.  I liked my outfit, and I felt pretty good.  I'm not feeling great today.  I'm exhausted and more than a little nauseated.  That being said, I love this outfit.

I started the necklace and earring set while I was in Iowa earlier this month, and I just finished it last night.  I love the combination of turquoise and coral.  I think I am going to shorten it a little so you can see the small turquoise beads that are currently in the back.  The beautiful oval turquoise beads and red coral beads are from my friend Angie and my mom respectively.  It will be lovely to think of them each time I wear this jewelry.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite dresses.  It is light and flowy and I love the combination of navy and turquoise.  I didn't think to pair it with red until I tried it with this jewelry, but I'm thrilled with the results!

Dress, thrifted; belt, thrifted; shoes, Montego Bay Club, Payless Shoes; necklace and earrings, handmade by me.

You can be assured that I will wear this exact outfit again one day when I'm feeling as marvelous as this outfit deserves.

Birds of a Feather

I am so fortunate to have encountered many wonderful, creative, intelligent women over the course of my life.  Some of them are related by blood, some by marriage and some through the bonds of friendship.  Some have drifted in and out of my life over the years, and that's ok.  Some will be in my life and heart forever.  I am grateful for all my friends, family and spirit sisters.

Tonight I am having dinner with one of my newer friends.  I met her soon after moving to Georgia.  Chenille is the whole package: clever, crafty and kind.  To celebrate our meeting of minds, I styled a swallow-themed outfit.  Swallows are my favorite bird because Cozumel is from the Mayan for "land of swallows," and I got married in Cozumel!  I know I've said that here before, but it makes me happy.

For whatever reason I actually feel like listing my sources for clothes this morning.  Dress, Coldwater Creek, thrifted; tank, thrifted; shoes, Montego Bay Club, Payless Shoes; earrings, Roth Jewelers; necklace, ebay; belt, gifted (thanks, Mom!).

You may notice that my hair has been styled like this all week.  For some reason I've been in a night showering mood, and I am too lazy to really style my hair after sleeping on it wet.  Bobby pins to the rescue!
Thai food for dinner tonight!  Yum!  Today is Thursday, and Thursdays are for Thrifters!
