Powerhouse Favorites

As far as my outfits go, this is pretty understated, but it combines a number of my favorite pieces.

Jacket, thrifted; dress, thrifted; tights, Target; boots, Rack Room Shoes; Hand of the King pin, available on Amazon , purchased in India; earrings, Claire's.

I love this wine-colored wool jacket for fall.  I love the leopard print dress any time.  The Hand of the King pin is just love.  Love.  Love.  Love.  Wine-colored tights and basic boots tie it all together into a comfortable, attractive package.

This is another day of photgraphing with a fancy camera.  I still don't have the bugs worked out, but these are the best photos I've ever taken of the hand of the king pin and Indian necklace.

You've Got to Hand It to Me

Let's call today's outfit equestrian... Westeros Style.  I combined the wonderfully whimsical high stepping skirt from eShakti.com with blazer, blouse, and boots... and finished it all off with my authentic reproduction Hand of The King pin.  That's how I roll.

Blazer, thrifted; blouse, thrifted; skirt, eShakti.com; boots, thrifted; earrings, handmade by me; necklace, ebay; pin, ThinkGeek.com.

I like that this necklace has a toothy/claw-y/armor-y/centipede vibe.  I spent much of the day showing off my fancy pin to my coworkers.  Some got it; some didn't.  I think my enthusiasm made it amusing for all of them.

I pair my higher-end pieces (like the skirt) with thrifted and handmade pieces.  The blouse, blazer, and necklace each cost just $1, and the boots were under $10.

If you'd like a whimsical but classic skirt like this one, you can get $30 off your first eShakti.com order with coupon code JEANNEZ8GL.

Breaking the Rules

Today I broke one of my few rules, but I have a thought-out defense of my actions.  I am almost wearing leggings as pants.  I know.  Shame on me.  Let me explain.  They're not really leggings.  They are athletic pants.  Usually I wear them for jogging, but today I wanted something fitted that I could wear with boots.

Sweater, Charlotte Russe, thrifted; pants, Danskin, Walmart; boots, Presario, Rack Room Shoes; pendant, ebay.

Other than the questionable choice in pants, I had the Song of Ice and Fire on my mind when I got dressed this morning.  This sweater reminds me of chainmail.  (I purchased it at Goodwill with Chenille on the same trip as my cowboy jacket.)  I added a wolf  pendant for some Stark realness.

Do you forgive me for breaking the rules?  How do you style calf-high boots?

The Sincerest Form of Flattery

To answer the teaser from yesterday, what I wear for battle is chain mail and leopard.  Of course.
Chain mail necklace plus leopard dress =
Don't mess with me.
I didn't mean to make this face, but it cracks
me up.

I bought this dress in a fit of shameless plagiarism.  Every time Kasmira at What I Wore 2Day wears this dress, I do a search for it on ebay, and the last time she wore it I actually struck gold.  I found the identical dress in my size!  It may not be that cool to copy another blogger, but being cool has never really been my thing.  I love the animal print (of course) and the geometric embellishments.
I love this outfit and therefore these pics.
I haven't done the flamingo pose lately.

I'm trying to channel a little Game of Thrones "you win or you die" vibe today.  Obviously I'm planning on winning.  Things are going to be pretty intense from now through mid-June at work, so I'm getting my game face (which apparently is a Game of Thrones face) to get through it all.
Shoes and nails: love 'em.
Necklace and earrings: love 'em.

This isn't the first time I've copied drawn inspiration from What I Wore 2Day.  WIW2D also motivated me to try this dress that already lived in my closet in fun new ways like this one, this one, and this one.

Saving My Energy

Signs point to this week being a battle, but today should be a brief reprieve.  I am saving my sartorial and emotional energy for the days to come.  I dressed lazy from head to toe: lazy glasses, lazy earrings (studs), lazy shirt, lazy slacks (redundant), lazy shoes.  In spite of all the laziness, I really like the outfit.  I guess this is what happens when I put thought into my apparel most days- even on days I don't things come together.  I think it has a bit of a retro vibe.

Amazingly, none of this outfit is thrifted.  It has been a while since I wore an outfit with no thrifted components.  I did buy everything on clearance though, so you know I haven't been abducted by aliens.
I got a pendant like this for my sister as well.
I really hope she likes it.
Lazy shoes and blue toes.
This is the same nail color I had at my wedding.

Top, Merona, Target; camisole, Rue 21; slacks, Younkers; sandals, Merona, Target; earrings, Claires; circuit board pendant, Beadwork by Amanda, etsy; ring (not shown, oops), gifted (thanks Pop).

I have officially rekindled my obsession with the Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire.  Stephen and I watched a couple episodes of Season 2 of the HBO series, I started re-reading the books, and I bought the Game Of Thrones Soundtrack from Amazon.  It's a great soundtrack and very evocative of the moods in the show/books.  I've wanted it since I started watching the tv show, and now it is mine!  Here's a taste:

Tomorrow I will be dressed for battle, so come back and see what that means!

Like every Monday, today is Visible Monday.  I was planning on skipping this Visible Monday, but I just love how this outfit turned out.  It's the lazy way to be visible.  Check out the ladies who weren't lazy with their visibility on Patti's Not Dead Yet Style blog!

(Wo)Man of the Night's Watch

In the Song of Ice and Fire book series the Men of the Night's Watch guard the Seven Kingdoms from beings from the north.  They wear all black and better be bundled up because baby, it's cold on the wall.  You won't find me standing on a giant wall of ice fighting evil Others and frozen zombies, but today's outfit was inspired by SoIaF.  I tried it with a black dress and black boots, but it was just too much black for a Friday.

I wandered around on my photo shoot today, lots of pictures, great scenery, not so great close-ups.

Suede vest, thrifted; turtleneck sweater, George, Walmart; jeans, Bandolino Blu, Younkers; shoes, Naturalizer, Younkers; necklace and earrings, TrinketsByM, etsy.

I love the furry trim on this vest.  I'm not sure whether it is really fur or not (since I got the vest at a thrift store), but it is soft and warm.

Today is my mom's birthday.  Happy birthday to the woman who made me and made me "me."

Under the Sea, the Birds Have Scales for Feathers

I love George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series of books, and the title of today's book comes from the prophetic ramblings of Patchface the Fool.  The variety of blues in my outfit reminds me of ocean waters, and my jewelry features, a fish, octopi, and coral.

This sweater is kind of weird.  I didn't notice that the bottom of the sweater has button holes and the shoulders have buttons until I was on my way to work.  It can be worn loose, tied, or crossed and buttoned.  There are probably other ways to wear it too.  I really like multi-way clothes.

I think I am going to do a series of outfits inspired by SOIAF characters.  Geek-gasms ahoy!

As an aside, I just found out that George R. R. Martin has a blog which he is calling "Not A Blog."  Very clever, George.  Stop "not" blogging and start writing book six of A Song of Ice and Fire!
