Spotty Memories

I'm wrapping up my farewell week at work with more animal print because that's how I roll.  This is just another spotty memory to add to my coworkers' collections.  When my mom saw this outfit she told me I "don't look like NPR or the Magic Schoolbus."  I'll take that as a compliment.
There was condensation on the
lens this morning.  Probably because
it's swimmingly humid.
Or maybe I have a ghost in frame.

By the time you read this I will have completed my last day at my current job.  Next week I begin a scary and exciting new chapter.  I will be researching and writing my little heart out.  I am also making a list of other goals for the summer.  I'll share those next week.  Not much will be changing on this blog for now, just lots in my day to day life.

Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

Too Much is Not Enough

When I sat down to have my makeup applied before the fashion show last week, the makeup artist asked me how I wanted my makeup to look.  My response: too much is not enough.  That has been another trend in my fashion lately.  Unlike the fabulous Coco Chanel, who advised that you remove the last accessory you put on before you leave the house, I have been adding just one more.  That is how I feel about this outfit.  Too much is just right.

Shirt, Merona, Target; skirt, ebay; belt, thrifted; abalone earrings, The World's Window; turquoise earrings, thrifted; crocheted necklace and bracelet, handmade by me; dragonfly pendant, Augusta Saturday Market; turquoise bracelet, purchased in Cozumel.

Today's shoes are pretty much wonderful.  I added the turquoise earrings and bracelet to compliment the turquoise on the shoes.  I chose abalone for my other jewelry because the swirls in the skirt remind me of the swirling colors of the shell.

Double Dressing

Another of my recurring outfit themes is wearing two dresses at once.  Here is yet another example.  Today's photos didn't turn out well at all.  I took them at the end of the day and the light just wasn't right.  The highlight of the editing/cropping was noticing that Gadget repeatedly photo bombed me.
Gadget: lower left corner.
Gadget: lower right corner.
Here are some of the (many, many) prior examples.  No joke.  I didn't realize just how often I do this until I looked for photos.
Swamp Thangs
One of These Days/
One of Those Days
Rust & Sky
The Pickup
This is just another reason I enjoy blogging.  It has given me the impetus to get out of my comfort zone and try new things... which have become my favorite things which I then do nonstop until I get out of my comfort zone again and find another great new thing.

The ones above don't even count the week in January/February when I wore two dresses at once four days in a row.
Twice Best Dressed
Conceptual Tigers
Dressed to Obsess
TGI-Dress
There have been many more.  Lately I've been layering sleeveless dresses under shirt dresses for the chilly chilly office.  During the winter I was layering a lot more sweater dresses.

Shirt dress, Miss Tina, Walmart; shift dress, thrifted; belt, thrifted; shoes, Mossimo, Target; earrings, Silver Jewelry Club; necklace, thrifted.

This is my fifth and last pair of leopard print flats.  It is also my least favorite of the pairs.  The elastic around the heel hits me the wrong way a little bit.

These are the shoes I wore the day I
hurt my knee.
Not conducive to orthopedic health.
I have felt a little stuck in flats the past few weeks.  I injured my knee July 10.  I'm not sure whether it was the heels or the jog that did it that day, but I figured out that for now I can either wear heels or jog on a regular basis- not both.  I chose jogging.  Sigh.  The heels will return sooner or later.

Lazy Leopard

I realize that the predominant animal print in this outfit is tiger/zebra/stripey animal, not leopard, but I am a sucker for alliteration and this is a lazy outfit.  Or maybe relaxed is a more charitable word.  Any Jeanne retrospective has to include lots of animal print, so you may see a bit of it as I count down the days here at work.

Animal print dress, thrifted; leggings, No Boundaries, Walmart; belt, thrifted; shoes, Christmas Tree Shoes; earrings, Silver Jewelry Club; pendant, gifted (thank you Stephen!).

This is the fourth pair of leopard print flats I've worn this month.  I didn't realize until a few days ago that I am up to five pairs of leopard print flats in my closet.  Someone call my friends and family.  I might need an intervention.  Not really.  I am happily addicted.

I never thought I would enjoy leggings as much as I have recently.  I have always been too self-conscious to wear something skin-tight on my legs.  Luckily I've learned that leggings are comfortable and what other people think of my style is none of my business.

Dressing Happy

This skirt makes me happy, especially when it is paired with a striped cardigan.  I can't help it.  It is just such a stereotypically blogger style.  Since this is my last week at my current job, I'm remixing some styles I've really enjoyed to share one last time with these coworkers.

Cardigan, George, Walmart; camisole, Walmart; skirt, Southern Lady, thrifted; shoes, Bare Traps, Younkers; earrings, Claire's; necklace, etsy.

This combination didn't quite hit the mark.  I think I needed something to define my waist since the cardigan is quite a bit longer than the one I wore the last time I tried this concept.  That's the great thing about clothes.  No matter how today turns out I'll try something new tomorrow.

First Class, Second Hand Fashion Show

I had so much fun at the Salvation Army First Class Second Hand Fashion Show.  I wore a vintage blue dress with polka dots, paired with my yellow bow belt.  At the end of the night I bought the dress ($4.49, score!).
There were around a dozen models overall, but unfortunately I don't have many more photos.  My friend Chastity joined the fun as well.

I hope this event exposed some new people to the joys of thrifted fashion.  Thanks to the Salvation Army staff for working so hard to set up this fun event, and to my mom for taking photos of me and Chastity.

My Day Friday

The main payoff for this blog has been finding a personal style that helps me feel my best.  This is another outfit that just makes me feel good.  I've been having a lot of those lately.

My hair is getting long and I like it.
I know my eyes are closed. I like this
pic anyway.
Dress, Mossimo, thrifted; belt, thrifted; sandals, Montego Bay Club, Payless Shoes; necklace and earrings, handmade by me; bracelet, handmade by me.

This dress is one of my favorite thrifted items.  The cool, gauzy layers are perfect for summer.  I thought I had already paired it with my coral and turquoise jewelry, but I can't find any photos in the blog archives.  I did wear it on the plane to Massachusetts in March and paired with tights in February.

I'm over halfway done with my Summer Shoe Challenge, and I'm a long way from running out of shoes.  I'm glad I grabbed this pair this morning.  They don't get enough wear even though they are fairly comfortable, versatile wedges.

Friday Four

I have many reasons to be ecstatic about life right now.  In brief, here are four things that are making me happy today.
Friends.
  1. Stephen and I booked a trip to the Dominican Republic with some of our closest friends for later this year.  Time with my hubby and our friends Joe and Angie = score!
  2. I am going to be a model and personal shopper for fashion show tonight at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.  That is so completely up my alley.  (Hence the not-too-subtle clue earlier today.)
  3. Fun nails.
Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail polish strips continue to rock my world.  This time around I tried the Laced Up pattern.  It will probably jinx me to type this, but I have not broken a nail since I tried these the first time.  I think they might be reinforcing my natural nails because usually by the time my nails get this long I start breaking them right and left.
  4. I was a little bored last night, so I converted a child's dress into a fun market bag.  Yay sewing!
Before: dress
After: bag

Oh My...

Today I have my last board meeting before I leave this job, and I wanted to be memorable.  What's more memorable than lions and tigers and bears?  How about leopards and zebras and bears (oh my!)?

Sweater, Rafaella, Younkers; dress, B-Slim, Younkers, belt, GAP, thrifted; leopard flats, Christmas Tree Shops, zuni bear earrings and necklace, handmade by me.

I'm happy with how this outfit turned out.  I feel 100% like myself in it, and I'm loving my hair today.  Happy Thursday!
